Jim Gary

JIM GARY

An acoustic singer/songwriter, Jim Gary grew up in southeastern Michigan listening to all the great sounds of the ‘60s – Motown, Beatles, and all those great Jimmy Webb songs. He now lives in the Chicago area.

Picking up a guitar at age 14, he started learning chords and moved on to fingerpicking the songs of John Denver, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, James Taylor, and Gordon Lightfoot. Since that time, Jim continued to write, perform, and record music, releasing several albums and EPs along the way.

Jim Gary is a Kerrville New Folk Finalist and an award-winning songwriter (Great River Folk Fest) who writes songs of wit and wisdom in whatever genre strikes his fancy. His 6 albums representing over 70 original songs contain a variety of styles. Above all, they demonstrate a firm commitment to lyrics and images that will move you!

Jim’s CD “Midnight Muse” (1996) is a “delightful collection of songs” (Bob Janis, WDCB’s “Folk Festival”) with a dozen original songs ranging from folk ballads to the uptempo full band “Go with the Flow” and “Winds of Fortune” to straight-up country “Mama’s Cheatin’” to a light jazz showtune-ish “Girl in the Gossamer Gown”.

He lives in the Chicago area, has recorded a CD of Michael Smith songs (“I Wanna Be Like Mike”) and continues to write and perform. Jim released a new CD of original music, Big Door; after that, Little Wonder in 2014, two CDs (Unfolked) and (Wordplay) in 2019, a double-length CD of 24 previously unreleased original songs (From the Song Cellar) in 2021, and a holiday CD “A (Mostly) Merry Jim Gary Christmas!” in 2021.

JIM FINE

Jim Fine

Cut from similar cloth as great Texas singers like Guy Clark and Robert Earl Keen, Jim is an acoustic troubadour. He mixes folk wit with a little dusty twang in his authentic interpretations of alt-country laments and rootsy ballads.

With his smooth baritone voice and graceful guitar work, Jim is much more than fine when he puts his unique stamp on traditional and modern folk material.

Published Music & Where to Find More

In Jim’s most recent CD release, Never Underestimate an Old Man with a Guitar, Don Stiernberg and Rich Prezioso feature prominently with instrumentals and vocal accompaniment.

Jim Fine performs traditional and modern acoustic folk music, country, oldies, and standards.

He performs regularly at the Stage Left Open Mic, Every Saturday Virtual Open Mic, at the Lake County Folk Club open mics, and other events.
