Jim Bartholomew Featured Friday May 9, 2025 | Stage Left Open Mic

Jim is no stranger to Stage Left. He has appeared at the Friday Stage Left Open Mics, both in person and online, also serving as featured performer.

Jim’s roots are in the Folk Revival of the late 60s, and years of performing and entertaining have shaped him into a consummate singer and songwriter. His repertoire covers generations and includes songs he has written, songs we’ve all heard and loved, and obscure and interesting songs he’s found along the way.

Since his introduction to the folk audiences in the early 70s, Jim has performed not only in small clubs but also on some of the largest stages in the nation. Playing with some of Chicago’s best musicians in the course of 200-plus dates per year for decades, he distinguished himself as the featured vocalist with the most popular bar bands in the city and suburbs.

Jim and his bands appeared with some of the biggest names in music as featured performers at the Old Town School of Folk Music, at the first Taste of Chicago, at numerous colleges, state and county fairs, and in concert with Jethro Burns, The Osborne Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, The Kingston Trio, Richey Furay, Loretta Lynn, Tom T. Hall and Marty Robbins among others.

Jim’s set list is fluid and molds itself to the wishes and vibes of that day’s audience, which is soon captured by his quick wit, solid guitar playing, and soulful voice. Jim performs with great humor, understanding and respect for the genre, the song and the setting.
